The American Legion was instituted by the United States Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veterans organization dedicated to mutual helpfulness. Amvets - Terre Haute

Amvets is a non-partisan, volunteer-led organization that was formed by the World War II veterans of the United States military. The organization represents over 20 million veterans and their families, and advocates for its members and for numerous causes that the group deems helpful for the nation at large.

Art Spaces

Art Spaces strives to better the landscape of the city through public art and design. The organization has added eighteen unique, site-specific public sculptures throughout Terre Haute. The art further adds meaning and interest to our public places, and the art provided is free to all of those in our community at all times.

Alternatives For Living and Learning

Alternatives for Living & Learning is a nonprofit organization focused on child day care. It is an United Way agency that provides nursery and other support services to children of high school aged parents. This agency, located on Terre Haute South's high school campus, helps allow high school parents to best balance parenting and academics.

The American Chemical Society aims to advance the broader chemistry enterprise and its practitioners for the benefit of Earth and its people. The Terre Haute chapter takes part in the numerous scientific journals, research conferences, and takes part in numerous other chemistry related programs throughout the year.

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, which prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergency. Through donations, volunteers, and various other partnerships, the American Red Cross offers disaster relief, access to safe blood products, service to armed service families, and help in emergency.

The Arc of Vigo County provides advocacy, parent support and training, and services to families with a family member with a developmental disability. Also, the organization is involved in supported employment  and habilitation services for those with developmental disability to facilitate integration of all persons into our community.

Arts Illiana promotes, supports, and enhances the arts and cultural activities of the Wabash Valley. The primary Indiana counties of Arts Illiana include Clay, Parke, Putnam, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo. The primary Illinois counties include Clark and Edgar. Arts Illiana offers multiple art galleries throughout the year for our community.

Furthermore, the foundation puts on various fishing events throughout the year, such as family fishing days and fishing tournaments.

Bethesda Corporation is a non-profit, which operates a 101 unit apartment for the elderly, handicapped, and low-income persons in Terre Haute. The elderly and low-income project ran by the corporation is known as Juliet A. Peddle Park in her memory. The park was opened in 1980, and offers full-time management and maintenance.

Bibles for the Blind and Visually Handicapped

Bibles for the Blind and Visually Handicapped prints and distributes the Bible in braille without charge to the blind and visually handicapped to those who are otherwise unable to afford to read God's word. Bright Hope Riders of the Wabash Valley provides therapeutic horseback riding to persons with developmental disabilities. Therapeutic horseback riding offers a unique form of therapy for people with physical, cognitive, or developmental delay disabilities. #BeMoreLikeClaire is a fundraiser in memory of Claire Elizabeth VanLandingham, who was tragically murdered at age 28. The mission aims to increase access to food, housing, and healthcare. In addition, the organization works to end relationship violence, create healthier environments, and mentoring development.

CANDLES was started by Holocaust survivor Eva Kor to prevent prejudice and hatred through education about the Holocaust. The organization is dedicated to the memory of the Kor twins who were subject to Nazi doctor Josef Mengele. Through education, the museum hopes to create a world free from hatred and genocide.

Catholic Charities of Terre Haute is an agency that offers compassionate and caring assistance to those in need in Terre Haute. It offers numerous services, such as a youth center, a foodbank, and housing for women facing hardship. The agency also has a program to help needy families during the Christmas season.

The Children's Theater of Terre Haute's mission is to encourage children of all ages to follow their passion both onstage and off. The theater was founded in 1936, and the first productions were the Wizard of Oz and Treasure Island. To this day, the Children's Theater puts on multiple shows throughout the year.

The Chinese School of the Wabash Valley teaches the Chinese language and culture to residents of the Wabash Valley. The school offers classes to children and adults, and the classes range from beginner to intermediate to proficient. In addition to teaching, the organization offers Chinese residents a way to stay connected to their culture.

The Collett Park Neighborhood Association aims to preserve and improve Collett Park, the surrounding historic district, and the entire neighborhood at large. The association works with governmental agencies, businesses, and institutions to preserve this beautiful park and ensure it future generations can enjoy just like residents of today.

The Community Theater of Terre Haute strives to entertain, educate, and enrich the community through dramatic arts. The theater puts on five stage productions and several black box productions during the year, and allows the residents of Terre Haute the opportunity to see and become part of live theater.

Council on Domestic Abuse (CODA)

The Council on Domestic Abuse works to eliminate domestic violence and sexual assault through societal change and the empowerment of abused individuals and their minor children. CODA offers an emergency shelter, a 24-hour crisis line, legal advocacy, educational programs, and various other services to those affected by domestic abuse.

The Covered Bridge Special Education District stands by the notion that every student has the right to an appropriate education. Thus, the district offers numerous programs to help those with special needs attain that appropriate education. Therapy, consultation, and other special needs services are provided by the organization.

The Crisis Pregnancy Center of the Wabash Valley opened in 1988 to provide free pregnancy tests, counseling, maternity clothes, and baby items. As the organization grew, new services such as a creating positive relationships program and a abstinence program for middle school students. The organization also offers free STD testing.

The Cure A Little Herat Foundation was founded in 2005 with a vision to treatment for economically disadvantaged children with pediatric heart disease. Crossroads Volleyball Inc.

The Crossroads of America (COA) Volleyball Club is an athletic program that gives young athletes the opportunity to pursue volleyball at a competitive level. The club trains aspiring volleyball players and puts together teams, scrimmages, and tournaments. Also, the club prepares players for high school competition and the chance for collegiate ball.

14th & Chestnut Community Center

14th & Chestnut Community Center is a faith-based nonprofit organization dedicated to making a difference in the lives of local children. The center runs an after school program and various other events throughout the year to ensure children receive their basic needs. The center also holds a food pantry open to the Terre Haute community.

500 Museum of Wheels

500 Museum of Wheels, located on Ohio street, shares the Indiana racing heritage with Terre Haute residents. The museum showcases approximately 35 cars, various motorcycles, and numerous memorabilia items. Admission for those over the age of 15 is $5.00. However, no one has ever been refused to visit due to an inability to pay.
